Daniel Ricciardo confirms move to Renault in 2019
The wait is over, with Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo confirming that he will be joining the Renault Sport Formula One Team from the 2019 season.
It has been a highly anticipated decision from Ricciardo, who has made the move for the next two seasons and will be teaming up with current Renault driver Nico Hülkenberg.
Ricciardo said it was time for him to take on a fresh and new challenge, despite being one of the most difficult decisions in his career so far. “I realise that there is a lot ahead in order to allow Renault to reach their target of competing at the highest level, but I have been impressed by their progression in only two years, and I know that each time Renault has been in the sport they eventually won,” Ricciardo said. “I hope to be able to help them in this journey and contribute on and off track.”
Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, said it is great to see Daniel take on a new challenge. “I’m really excited that Daniel has been able to make such a decisive career move and I look forward to him making his Renault debut in Melbourne,” Westacott said.
Renault Sport Racing President, Jérôme Stoll, welcomes Daniel’s arrival to the team and said they are more motivated than ever. “Renault decided to come back to Formula One to fight for World Championships. Signing Daniel Ricciardo is a unique opportunity for the Groupe Renault towards this objective that could not be missed,” Stoll said.
