Single Release: Linying – Paycheck

Singapore-based indie-pop artist Linying has released her stirring new single ‘Paycheck’ – lifted from her forthcoming new record (due late 2018).

‘Paycheck’ is a stunning slice of indie electro-pop. Floating effortlessly over a bed of spacious trip-hop infused production, the track’s poignant lyrics are brought to life through the songstress’ emotively-driven vocal performance and compelling melodies.

Linying describes the meaning behind ‘Paycheck’:  “It’s a song about admitting defeat and accepting that the narrative of what happened is split between the two people who share in it, and into two versions of the same truth that will exist concurrently, forever diverging. Losing that collective memory, a version of the truth you once worked hard for and held onto together, is also kind of labour that’s gone to waste, hence the song title.”

Linying first garnered global attention after her vocal toplines featured on a number of house tracks by European producers Felix Jaehn and Lost Frequencies. Her debut single ‘Sticky Leaves’ led her to be the first Singaporean artist to ever enter Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart. The track amassed over five million plays and landed a sync on the Netflix tv show Terrace House.

Debut EP ‘Paris 12’ received praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1, NPR and USA Today for, which reached #1 on the iTunes Singapore charts in 2016.

Following on from the success of her debut EP Linying signed multi-label deals with Universal Music in Asia, Nettwerk Music Group in Canada and Umami Records. She is managed by Foundation Music in Singapore.
