Exclusive releases of The King

Following its red carpet premiere at Ritz Cinemas in Randwick on Thursday 10 October with star Timothée Chalamet in attendance, THE KING is releasing exclusively at Classic, Lido, and Cameo in Victoria, and is exclusive in the east at Ritz Cinemas in New South Wales, on Friday 11 October.

The highly-anticipated latest film from Australian filmmaker David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, The Rover), features a powerhouse cast including Chalamet, Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton, and Lily-Rose Depp. It was co-written by Michôd and Edgerton. THE KING is produced by Netflix, Academy Award-winning production company Plan B, Porchlight Films, Yoki, Inc., and Blue-Tongue Films.

THE KING premiered at Venice Film Festival to widespread acclaim, with Oscar buzz for the film building already. The Hollywood Reporter calling it, “a stirringly lucid drama that balances its muscular and contemplative sides with unerring judgment, harnessing quietly commanding performances to reflect on the vainglorious folly of power and ‘the doleful weight of war.'”

SYNOPSIS: Hal (Timothée Chalamet), wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English throne, has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people. But when his tyrannical father dies, Hal is crowned King Henry V and is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape. Now the young king must navigate the palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life — including his relationship with his closest friend and mentor, the ageing alcoholic knight, John Falstaff (Joel Edgerton).

The acquisition of this high profile film exclusive in Victoria, and exclusive in Sydney’s East in New South Wales, cements the reputation of Classic, Lido, Cameo and Ritz Cinemas as the “home of the Oscars” for 2019/2020.

In addition to THE KING, Classic, Lido, Cameo, and Ritz Cinemas will also screen all the other Oscar-hopeful titles over the next few months including Joker (Oct 3), Judy (Oct 17), Ford v Ferrari (Nov 14), Jojo Rabbit (Dec 26), Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Dec 26), Bombshell (Jan 1), and Little Women (Jan 1).

Tickets to THE KING go on sale online and from the cinema box offices from 9am on Friday 27 September.
