Fellini Retrospective at Classic and Lido Cinemas
Classic and Lido Cinemas are celebrating the larger-than-life Italian maestro filmmaker Federico Fellini, who would have turned 100 last year, with a retrospective of almost all of incredible films.
The Fellini Retrospective takes place every Monday night at 7pm at Classic Cinemas in Elsternwick and every Sunday afternoon at 4pm at Lido Cinemas in Hawthorn from February 7 until June 7, 2021.
Fellini won the Palme d’Or for La Dolce Vita, was nominated for twelve Academy Awards, and won four in the category of Best Foreign Language Film – the most for any director in the history of the Academy. He received an honorary award for Lifetime Achievement at the 65th Academy Awards in 1993. Extravagant and fanciful, his films are a swirling combination of dreams, memories, fantasies and real life.
Presented in association with the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne, the Fellini Retrospective will include introductions to select sessions by Elisabetta Ferrari, a lecturer in Italian Studies for the University of Melbourne.
The Tamir family-owned cinemas – Classic, Lido and Cameo in Melbourne, and Ritz Cinemas in Sydney – proudly show a wide variety of retrospective programming alongside new release titles. The retrospective programming is being amplified at these four beloved independent cinemas, and it’s here to stay. Classic, Lido, Cameo and Ritz Cinemas are committed to providing shared big screen experiences of the best films from both the past and the present. There’ll always be something playing to satisfy audiences of every inclination – from deep-dive director retrospectives for the uber-cinephile to the box-office-smashing all-time favourites that everyone needs to see at least once in their lifetime.
