2022 Melbourne International Film Festival

The 70th edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival will see the cultural event expand its footprint, with an extended program to be discovered at home and further afield. From The Capitol to Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal, Pentridge Coburg and The Forum, MIFF 70 will be the biggest season of the festival Australia has ever seen.

One of the world’s longest-running film festivals, MIFF returns to metro, regional and suburban theatres from 4 to 21 August with a celebration of world-class cinema, plus a number of specially commissioned works and exciting events intended to celebrate the landmark platinum anniversary. Streaming online nationally, the festival’s digital platform MIFF Play also returns to the program from 11 to 28 August, ensuring loyal cinephiles can indulge in the most exciting international cinema from everywhere across Australia.

MIFF’s 2022 in-cinema program will run from 4 to 21 August – 18 days of premiere showcases, international features, exclusive screenings, commissioned works, panel discussions, industry events, live talks and XR experiences for cinephiles of all tastes and persuasions.

MIFF’s CBD venues: ACMI, The Capitol, Forum Melbourne, Hoyts Melbourne Central, IMAX, Kino Cinema and Cinema Nova.

We’re making getting to MIFF even easier by partnering with some of Melbourne’s favourite inner-city suburban venues. For two weekends (plus some bonus dates at The Astor), you can watch select MIFF films in the comfort of your local cinema.

MIFF’s suburban venues: The Astor (St Kilda), Lido Cinemas (Hawthorn), Pentridge Cinema (Coburg) and Sun Theatre (Yarraville).

Across two exciting weekends, MIFF arrives in regional cinemas throughout Victoria, bringing a curated program of some of the world’s best films.

MIFF’s regional venues: Capitol Cinema (Warrnambool), Paramount Cinemas (Echuca), Peninsula Cinemas (Sorrento), Star Cinema (Bendigo), Sun Cinema (Bairnsdale), Sun Cinema (Bright), The Pivotonian Cinema (Geelong), Theatre Royal (Castlemaine) and Wallis Cinemas (Mildura).

MIFF Play, the festival’s online streaming platform, will screen a wide selection of films from the 2022 program – available nationally from 11 to 28 August. Delivering cinematic content directly to audiences, wherever they may be located, MIFF Play proved essential in 2020 and 2021, and this online offering will return in 2022.

The full MIFF 70 program will be announced on Tuesday 12 July.
