:: Heart of St.Kilda ConcertBy: Carmine PascuzziTwo Melbourne icons, St Kilda’s Palais Theatre and Sacred Heart Mission, will join together to present a start-studded fundraiser. The HEART OF ST KILDA CONCERT, on Friday, May 23, will showcase the creative and eclectic spirit of St Kilda, with some of Australia’s best known bands, solo artists and comedians already on board for the event. Hosts Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis from SBS’s popular music trivia program, RocKwiz, will introduce an impressive selection of artists and performers including Dave Hughes, Paul Kelly, Kate Ceberano,Kev Carmody, Colin Lane, Renee Geyer, Deborah Conway, Tex Perkins, Choir of Hard Knocks, Peter Rowsthorn, Des Dowling, Lawrence Mooney, Dan Sultan, Scott Wilson, Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter. In a venture unique in Australian entertainment history, these talented musicians, bands and comedians are putting aside their schedules to wear their hearts on their sleeves and demonstrate to Melbourne audiences their support for the work of Sacred Heart Mission. Kate Ceberano said, “We’ve all jumped at the opportunity to perform at the HEART OF ST KILDA CONCERT. It will be an amazing night, with a fantastic blend of musicians and artists coming together for a great cause, at another one of St Kilda’s favourite icons, the Palais Theatre.” As the Palais prepares to shut its doors for twenty months for refurbishments, the people of Melbourne can celebrate the beloved theatre while enjoying the tunes and entertainment of their favourite artists and performers, all while raising much-needed funds for another heart of St Kilda – Sacred Heart Mission. Sacred Heart Mission CEO, Michael Perusco, believes the concert is a great opportunity to celebrate Australian talent and simultaneously raise funds for The Mission to help Melburnians who are homeless or living in poverty. He said, “We are excited so many performers as well as people behind the scenes have volunteered their time and expertise to be involved in the concert. It promises to be a special event which celebrates the hearts of St Kilda – the historic Palais and Sacred Heart Mission. We expect the funds raised at the HEART OF ST KILDA CONCERT will help pay for the 250,000 meals we deliver in our dining hall each year, but to do that, we need people to buy tickets now! We encourage all Melburnians to come along to the concert and help support the Mission in its daily work.” HEART OF ST KILDA CONCERT – from 7:30pm on Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Palais Theatre. |
