Q & A WITH LAURA ANDON
Q. What is your family background?
A. Australian and European. I grew up south of Sydney near Cronulla beach.
Q. Did you grow up in your teens wanting to be a model?
A. I grew up simply wanting to be happy and enjoy life. I began surfing at 17 and a photographer approached me to do a photo shoot for south coast tourism, and from then I was interested in the modelling industry.
Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?
A. I learnt that I wanted more. I wanted to have a voice and inspire people. I wanted to be a spokesperson, or ambassador for a great brand or organisation. I’m grateful to be the ambassador for Variety (the children’s charity) where I host events and spend time with disadvantaged children. It’s a blessing. During my transition from surfing to modelling, I was selected to be the ambassador for the national Cervical Cancer campaign and began realising the impact I had to young females' lives. Clearasil also asked me to be their spokesperson for their ‘secrets of looking and feeling awesome campaign’. I feel this is only the beginning as I have massive dreams and cannot wait to fulfil them.
Q. Career highlights to date?
A. I feel the people who I meet along my journey are the ultimate highlights. Watching things unfold and being part of creation is what keeps me motivated. I am grateful for the modelling campaigns I have been part of, the learning and personal growth I experience in acting class, the interesting and inspiring people I interview while hosting, and the ability to connect with youth via my university teaching degree.
Q. Favourite hobbies?
A. I love listening to music, watching movies, surfing, walking, travelling.

Q. Beauty tips?
A. Drink plenty of water. I never realised how important hydration was till I was travelling back and forth to Los Angeles. A dehydrated body is an unhappy one. Remove makeup before going to bed. Buy the correct colours that match your skin tone and keep it light and natural. Smile
Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?
A. Believe in yourself. Look after your health. Respect your body. If your booker is on a power trip, change agencies because you don’t deserve to be talked down to, or treated in a negative manner.
Q. Favourite place visited?
A. I love Sydney. I know I reside in Sydney, but I feel that Australia just hits the right spots. I love New York; so many things to see and do. The Grand Canyon was a spectacular experience and I cannot hide the fact that Las Vegas provided me with a few fun memories.
I am heading to Europe for a month very soon. I’m travelling to London, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice, Capri), France (Nice, Paris), Croatia (Dubrovnik). After that trip I fly to the Maldives to shoot the photos for my upcoming book. I would also like to see Egypt, Africa, Hawaii, Spain, and the Greek Islands someday soon also.
Q. Do you have a role model/s?
A. Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, my Grandparents
Q. Future ambitions?
