:: TAG Heuer Grand Prix event in Melbourne 2008By: Carmine Pascuzzi; photos by Matt DellerTAG Heuer kicked off a busy week of activities leading up to the first Formula 1 race of the season, by staging its legendary annual Grand Prix event. Long-time Brand Ambassador and reigning Formula 1 World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen was the special guest for the occasion. TAG Heuer’s President & CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin, flew out from Switzerland to host the event at Shed 14 in Central Pier, Melbourne Docklands. Over four hundred guests took part in a magnificent setting, and we saw Kimi and Jean-Christophe arrive in a red Ferrari. Other guests in attendance were actor Alex Dimitraides, who took over DJing duties for the night, Kiss drummer Eric Singer, Anthony Rocca, Jamie Durie, Kate Alexa, Gwendolynne Burkin, Cindy Sargon, Helen Kapalos, Andrew McManus, Mark Pennell, Alisa Camplin, Loudy Wiggins and Jim Wilson. Since joining TAG Heuer in 2002, Kimi, who recently extended his long-term contract with the Swiss watchmaking legend, has been actively involved in designing and developing TAG Heuer Sports watches and TAG Heuer Avant-Garde Eyewear. It has been a great collaboration between the World’s Number One Formula 1 driver and the World’s Number One luxury sports watch. Kimi conducted a short press conference to the media. As a man of few words and emotions, he didn't elaborate much on last year's come-from-behind championship win, except to say the Ferrari went very well for him and is hoping for another good season this time. He didn't want to say anything about the disgusting tactics by McLaren last season and he did say that he would be happy to drive at night, should Melbourne turn the race into a nightime event. He is very happy to continue his role with TAG Heuer as they have a great team of ambassadors. Pictures from the night by Matt Deller
