:: The PlayerBy: Carmine PascuzziThe Player is a club concept that began in London where Melbourne promoter Jono Francisco launched a private members club in a Soho basement beneath the famous posh undies shop Agent Provocateur. A hit with the celebrity set, The Player appeared in ID magazine, amoungst others, as the place to be. Jono returned to Melbourne and brought The Player home, which celebrated over three years of life at the now famous onesixone nightclub, way back in the early days of the Prahran venue. The Player now returns to revive the Melbourne club scene that has more recently lacked some lustre. As Jono said, “Let's go back to the disco”, as The Player starts its new beginning on Friday nights in Toorak. Lush and sophisticated, this two level club has several bars and rooms to play in including the new foyer marquee space. Guests enter through a rear entry doorway behind Toorak Village on Jackson Street with a strict door policy. There is a musical brief of house and disco by star DJ's Agent 86, Dr Fishcoteque, Mark John, Derek {K} Lee Davies and Shane Copal. Added to that are Chesterfield banquets, chandelieres, warm thick carpets and vocal house. With two dancefloors and set for an over 25’s crowd, The Player is the new playground for the fashion set. The worlds of film, television, media, music, fashion, art, and society make up the guestlist for this club night that will occur every Friday night. The Player is warm and cosy with lots of nooks and crannies, reminiscent of Annabelle's in London and Nell’s Nightclub in the 80’s era of New York. The luxe decor is like an old mansion or gentleman's club that leads to a disco where the glamour set show off. VIP opening night is Friday, June 26 2009. Access cards will be distributed on the night to assist with queue jumping in coming weeks, as The Player plans to repeat history as the Friday nightclub concept that crowds fight for attendance. The Player - every Friday night, 8 Jackson Street, Toorak 3142. |
