Austrade, the Australian Government's export promotion agency, has attracted over 50 key international fashion buyers to this year's Mercedes Australian Fashion Week (MAFW) to be held from April 26-30.

Austrade's National Manager, Consumer, Robert Sutton, said international buyers from top fashion houses in the United States, Europe, South East Asia and North East Asia will attend MAFW with Austrade's help. hE SAID, “Fashion exports last year were worth more than $240 million to Australia's economy and MAFW has continued to make an important contribution to those statistics. This year Austrade has also seen a boost in the number of Australian designers seeking export assistance. Designers themselves are increasingly seeing the value and importance of selling their collections overseas.”

Mr Sutton added that an example of the variety of buyers Austrade is bringing includes three from Italy, from the Giò Moretti, Lazzari and La Boutique di Adani fashion outlets. “Giò Moretti has three beautiful shops in the centre of Milan, two are located in Via della Spiga, one features very stylish women's, men's and home collections and an eclectic collection of hip items, the other is dedicated to babies, while the third one, located in Via Turati is more classic.”

Reflecting China‘s rapid economic growth, Mr Sutton said Austrade will bring a record number of buyers from China to MAFW this year. He said, “With the China market rapidly converting to a full blown consumer shoppers’ paradise, buyers are seeking quality Australian fashion that delivers international styling today. Now is the time for Australian fashion designers to start targeting the China market.”
