David Jones made an earlier than usual start in launching its 2009 Autumn Winter Collections. It wasn't the usual splendour of the glittering evening spectacular. Pity about that, as this season's Amore (love) theme would have desired a gorgeous lighting and decorative setting.

In Sydney's case, a morning show at the Hordern Pavilion, with the simple David Jones logo, saw a gathering of guests eating cake and drinking coffee. There was no extravagant lighting and video displays. It was a case of getting down to business of checking the fashions.

A one minute's silence was held for Victoria’s bushfire victims. It should be noted that David Jones donated $750,000 to the appeal, a fantastic gesture.

The latest Winter designs were on show including pieces from Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan, George Gross, Lisa Ho, Fleur Wood, Calibre, Arthur Galan Ag, and sass and bide.
