It was to be a big moment for David Jones. The transition from its brand face Megan Gale to another high profile model, Miranda Kerr, would be an important platform with which to launch a new phase in the company's retail strategy. Miranda brings a freshness in seeking a younger clientele to David Jones and the Summer Collection 2008/2009 launch in Melbourne was the first in a series of important milestones in her appointment. Megan Gale is remaining with David Jones as an ambassador, a great idea as Megan has contributed so much to the revitalisation of the company this decade.

All eyes at the Melbourne Town Hall were on Miranda. The buzz and hype surrounding Australia's international model made her the most watched person on the night. The night carried a “Girl From Ipanema” theme and Miranda opened proceedings in Jets swimwear. It set the tone for a terrific display of fashion from some of Australia's best designers, including Alannah Hill, Calibre, Zimmermann, Alex Perry, and sass & bide, before a grand finale from Colette Dinnigan.

The Melbourne celebrities and industry folk who attended were suitably impressed and a huge number of photographers were on hand to see Miranda Kerr up close and demonstrating her catwalk skills. She certainly impressed everyone with her charm and looks set for a sustained period as the face of David Jones.
