By: Carmine Pascuzzi

David Jones launched Spring Summer 2013 with high impact and shine as new Fashion Ambassador Jessica Gomes made her first official appearance on the runway to open the show.

With a set of rich white walls, poolside bars, bougainvillea and high shine surfaces David Jones's iconic On Seven space saw guests taken on a jetset adventure. Think Slim Aarons, Cap D'Antibes and the Italian riveria where high fashion meets the clearest of blue skies followed by hot, steamy and decadent Summer nights.

This season's launch shone with 35 capsule collections from Australia's leading designers including: Alex Perry, Akira, Alice McCall, Alannah Hill, Bassike, Bianca Spender, Bec & Bridge, CAMILLA, Camilla and Marc, Calibre, Carla Zampatti, Carl Kapp, Collette Dinnigan, Dion Lee, Easton Pearson, Ellery, Gary Bigeni, Ginger & Smart, Isola by Megan Gale, Jac+ Jack, Jack London, Jets, Josh Goot, Lover, MJ Bale, Rachel Gilbert, Romance was Born, Scanlan & Theodore, Simona, Tigerlily, Trelise Cooper (NZ), We Are Handsome, Willow, Zanerobe and Zimmermann Swim.

CAMILLA claimed the coveted closing position with a stunning presentation of her ‘Pachamama’ collection for Spring Summer. The David Jones Fashion Launch finale was the perfect platform for the internationally acclaimed Camilla Franks to showcase her vibrant, playful and luxurious collection.

Fashion Ambassador Jessica Gomes and Ambassador Montana Cox led a group of Australia's most renowned models and new faces including Alexandra Agoston, Maddison Brown, Olivia Thornton as well Zac and Jordan Stenmark fresh from working with Calvin Klein as well as David Jones campaign face Jack Vanderhart and new comer Mackenzie Upton Baker, in his first show for David Jones.

David Jones CEO and Managing Director Paul Zahra, Chairman Peter Mason AM, Group Executive Merchandise Donna Player, David Jones Ambassadors, Megan Gale, Gai Waterhouse and Emma Freedman, Great Gatsby star Elizabeth Debicki, Miranda Otto, Emma Lung, Gracie Otto, Kiyomi Vella, Ita Buttrose, Geoff and Sara Huegill as well as David Jones' renowned designers including Collette Dinnigan, Dion Lee, Josh Goot, Alex Perry, Camilla Freeman Topper, Marc Freeman, Kym Ellery.

With over 220 looks hitting the runway, this season's key trends came to life at the hands of style supremo Kelvin Harries. A major change saw the deviation from a designer opening the show, replaced by the white-on-white trend as 14 looks in white from a selection of designers created maximum impact. Monochromatic black and white also featured strongly alongside the elegance of Parisian Chic, modern sport luxe silhouettes and relaxed nautical stylings.

Darren Borthwick and a team of Aveda experts created two looks, perfect for an Italian with 60s references; a loose take on a French roll with a low side part and height at the crown, and a soft, full-bodied summer wave that relied on lots of texture and gloss.
