The Tom Ford Estee Lauder Collection comes to David Jones

“Created by Estēe in 1969, Azurēe was originally a fragrance that glamorised an indulgent Mediterranean lifestyle that eventually became part of the fabric of the 70’s. Inspired by this, I designed an azurēe makeup collection for Estēe Lauder, updating vintage packaging and creating a colour palette that works for today.”- Tom Ford

Introducing azurēe. Summer 2006. Tom Ford Estēe Lauder Collection. Inspired by the original Azurēe fragrance and the mythical beach destination it symbolised. The name, a combination of Côte d’Azur and Estēe Lauder, ethereally expresses a connection between two renowned worlds of beauty.

Following the success of the Amber Nude collection, Tom Ford has once again re-interpreted elements from Estēe Lauder’s past and created something modern and timeless. The 25-piece azurēe collection features three completely new makeup looks rooted in exotic, albeit imagined, ports of call - azurēe, cap bronzēe and st. tropēe - as well as specialty make-up and body products to complement the core looks.

The azurēe packaging elegantly balances heritage and modernity with architectural updates of Estēe Lauder’s vintage light blue packaging, with oversized gold “EL” cartouches and light blue enamel inlays. azurēe also continues the use of Tom Ford’s re-interpretation of Estée Lauder’s signature gold fluting which originally debuted in the Amber Nude Collection for 2005.

Three Key Looks

Exploring Estēe Lauder’s rich archives, Tom Ford has designed three distinctive summer colour palettes - in the season’s must-have vintage blue packaging — that are truly reflective of the mood of the original mythical Azurēe.

azurēe, cap bronzēe and st. tropēe capture the blues of the Mediterranean seas and skies, the jet set lifestyle of the 70’s, and the ultimate seaside look for the sexy modern woman.

The three colour palettes contain the essentials needed to achieve the azurēe look: neutral lips, dusted cheeks, and smoky eyes. Each look features an assortment of The Lip (two shades), The Cheek Glow (one shade), and The Eye Duo to complement varying skin tones.

Enhancing the Looks

For added seaside glamour, the collection includes additional items that can be worn with any of the three core looks. Lips stay seductively conditioned with The Lip SPF 15 and burst with clean fresh colour with The Lip Gloss in coralēe. Eyes are defined with The Eyeliner in noirēe. Skin looks sun-bronzed and sexy with The Face Glow in bronzēe, The Body Oil Spray and The Body Tint. The Face Highlighter and The Lacquer complete the look in a must-have white hue named coquillēe.

A sensual re-interpretation of the original Azurēe concept and lifestyle is incorporated into The Body Oil Spray and The Body Tint. The new scent features “tiare milk” – Tahitian Gardenia petals steeped in coconut and orange blossoms – mingled with sexy-warm accords of vetiver, sandalwood and myrrh.

Specialty

Rounding out the azurēe collection are items in gold fluted packaging designed for select department stores only.

Tom Ford’s re-interpreted gold fluted lipstick case and compacts return with vintage blue accents and sexy summer shades – The Lip SPF 15, The Face Sheen in coquillēe, The Sunbronzer and The Lip Shine in coralēe. The Mirror is also housed in gold packaging with a vintage blue inlay.

The Sensuous Image

The azurēe advertising image features Estēe Lauder model, Carolyn Murphy, photographed by photographer Craig McDean. Carolyn is positioned sensually in a seemingly isolated beach locale, wearing the peach-toned signature azurēe look.

The azurēe collection is now available nationally until sold out.

Key Looks For Summer

There’s something quite thrilling about a fresh breeze blowing through fashions wonderland. After several seasons of playing it safe boho style, many key designers are no longer just flirting with a new silhouette – they’ve embraced it wholeheartedly.

For Summer 2006, designers – from Chloé to Marc Jacobs and Sass & Bide to Akira - have jumped
into bed with structure, volume and a modern new mood. It is noted from the inspirational summer catalogue, focusing on the Tahitian look, there are many great shapes and colours.

Look for holiday favourites - a great bikini, a sweet sundress and plenty of jewel colours.

MODERN SHAPES
Yes, Boho has finally been banished, so it’s time to pack away your hippie layers and peasant skirts. Structure is the key to the new silhouette, as the likes of Burberry and Chloé proved, pumping up the volume with bell sleeves and skirts or playing with more formal, structured lines. Try Akira’s fitand-flared silk dress, Saba’s structured shifts, a cheeky dress from Kirrily Johnston or wide-skirted sundress by Marcs Babydoll.

JOIN THE CLUB
Crisp white and ice cream shades are key to the season’s preppy revival: a go-anywhere option that’s huge news right now. Lacoste, Gant and Armani have the clubhouse look down pat – think a weekend in the Hamptons, or the boat race at Henley with Pimm’s in hand. Team a neat checked shirt or collegiate blazer with a knee-grazing skirt, sling a sweater (cotton, please) around your shoulders, grab Hugh Grant and you’re off.

GLOBAL ROAMING
The likes of Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan channelled their inner nomads for summer 2007, cherry picking clever looks from the rich history of chic travel gear. But there’s no need to leave town to wear the new city shorts or an explorer-style shirtdress. Try Trent Nathan’s breezy linen safari looks, or belt one of Veronika Maine’s sandy knits and top off your ensemble with an oversized tan satchel – even urban nomads need plenty of room for their maps and cameras.

POSITANO
Wonderful flavours that epitomise the great Italian holiday spot. Classic dressing never goes out of style, and this summer we’re celebrating Riviera chic – ensure your suitcase boasts a perfectly-cut trench, tailored shorts, capri pants, both pencil and circle skirts, a jaunty cardigan and an array of colourful tanks and you can’t go wrong. Add a modern edge to timeless pieces with the new colour palette: caramel, duck egg blue, leaf and mandarin.

COAST GUARD
Colour is key to modern holiday dressing, whether you’re flying off to the Amalfi or the Gold Coast. For maximum impact stick to cleanly drawn basics – a classic trench coat, tank and shorts, a spaghetti-strapped sundress, a pencil skirt and chunky beads and bangles – painted in look-at-me shades of emerald, cobalt, lemon and magenta. Designers on coast watch? Try Diane von Furstenberg and Sonia Rykiel for bold patterns, while Zimmermann epitomises local fun.

HACIENDA
For a bit of hot Latin inspiration there’s a plethora of Spanish-influenced looks on the menu this season. The starting point? The matador. Invest in a smartly cut bolero, and team with cigarette or capri pants and a ruffle shirt. Basics are best in black or grey, set off with a bold hint of flame red, orange, magenta or deep plum. Olé!

APPLE OF OUR EYE
For a tropical feel, a host of labels looked to green hues. We love Ted Baker’s emerald hints cavorting across skirts and prints, French Connection’s apple shift dress and for him, Trent Nathan’s perky green resort looks. Go green!

MEN’S ROOM
Last year’s brave brights have been toned down in a menswear season that’s focused on nautical references and smartly accented off-duty gear. White is everywhere, trimming Sportscraft’s polo shirts, striped with red or green on city and T-shirts and adding freshness to preppy cricket knits, while one of the biggest new directions is white jeans.

WARDROBE MISTRESS – update your closet with these summer essentials
1. A puffed or bubble-hemmed skirt (remember – keep it narrow on top)
2. A wide swing jacket (reverse the rule and go skinny below the waist)
3. A preppy polo shirt
4. A jewel-bright bag, belt or sandal
5. Safari styling or a splash of animal print
6. A hint of mint, apple or emerald
7. A ruffle necked blouse to play Matador Miss
8. Sunglasses – the bigger the better
9. Vintage inspired bikini or one piece
10. Grandpa t-shirts
