By: Carmine Pascuzzi

DEBUT will return for its third season at Fashion Exposed March 2007 at Darling Harbour, Sydney. This initiative has been created to give new designers a break in the highly competitive Australasian fashion arena and to cultivate the fashion stars of tomorrow from Australia and New Zealand.

This season 20 finalists’ collections fit into the categories of Best Apparel Collection, Best Accessory (ranging from bags to footwear and jewellery) and Best Avant Garde Single Garment. Potential stockists and international visitors will view these collections over the three days of the Fair.

The finalist’s collections will be judged by a panel of fashion industry experts with the winners in each category securing a place at the following season’s show. DEBUT curator Uli Hasel commented “Over the past three seasons the talent has just got better and better. We have such strong designers in this country and it’s a pleasure to be able to bring them into the spotlight of the thousands of buyers that visit Fashion Exposed and preview each season” she said.

Some highlights set to be a part of DEBUT include Western Australian accessory designer Renee Glastonbury with her novel label dapple-grey which pairs quirky and playful wooden pieces with fine chain. Vicky Papageorgiou and her label Vasiliki from Victoria specialises in styling and patternmaking from time spent studying at L’Esclusiva Couture School. Avant Garde entrant and Kiwi counterpart Ying Li, implements stunning draping and fabric structure in all her pieces and uses this to blur the body’s contours.

Runway Shows and additional events taking place during the three-day Fair are to be announced over the coming weeks.
