:: Spotlight :: Debut at Fashion Exposed 2009

Twelve of the finest emerging garment and accessory designers will go head to head at the popular bi-annual Debut competition come August 30. Now in its fifth year, Debut at Fashion Exposed has unearthed some of Australia's most celebrated emerging labels. Debut is one of the most popular precincts within the fair attracting thousands of buyers and industry professionals each season.

This season's dozen qualified in key areas of originality, workmanship and marketability and will present collections in three categories Apparel, Accessories and Avant Garde. Highlights include Avant Garde label Ellen Bartels from New South Wales. Her collection Renia Del Maya is an infusion of beauty, futuristic fabrics, traditional concepts and goddess like beauty. While Queensland apparel entry metamorphose by Sunshine Coast designer Debbie van Rooyen will display her collection The Feeling in One's Bones, which is a moody collaboration of wool, leather, cashmere, and metal pieces.

South African born designer Marion Liese will be showcasing her first exquisite and detailed lingerie collection, A Dark Romance. No stranger to intimate apparel, Marion has spent many years designing luxurious pieces for well-known labels in both Australia and New Zealand.

A panel of industry experts will select the category winners. The designers will collect a prize pool in excess of $9,000 (3 x stand packages valued at $3,000 each) with the winners each securing an individual location within FASHION EXPOSED & preview the following season as well as WGSN trend workshops valued at $500.
