:: Spotlight :: Australian Designer Profile - SUBFUSCO

By: Tanja Mrnjaus

Brisbane based designer Joshua Roberto Scacheri understands the balance between Australian comfort and cutting edge Italian style thanks to his eventful career history.

At the age of 16, he packed up and moved to Italy to pursue a professional football career. Six years later, he returned to Australia and swapped his ‘soccer boots’ for a ‘sketch pad’ and started designing menswear for the sophisticated and stylish Australian male.

That time in Italy has had a huge influence on Joshua. From the time he arrived in Italy, fashion became part of his passion. Not hard to believe since the Italians ooze confidence and style.

Since Joshua’s label SUBFUSCO (Latin for deviated colour) first launched at the end of 2005, it has attracted an array of fashion awards and interest thanks to its contemporary cool designs and intricate detailing.

Most recent Joshua has participated in the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in Sydney as a part of the New Generation show. The RAFW experience was definitely a learning curb for Joshua, having to manage a hectic week with attracting buyers and negative media coverage of the New Generation designers. Joshua retaliated by wearing a t-shirt on his walk off ‘New Generation Designers Deliver’ and followed up with an open letter on his website The Age newspaper featured Joshua’s message in their A2 section - for the article go here

But, let’s get back to more important things like the latest trends to for the Aussie man. Joshua says, ‘You can’t go wrong with base colours of charcoal & navy mixed with contrast colours of red & purple."

For a casual, hoodies, thin knits, scarves, and skinny jeans, tozer necklaces and canvas shoes. For a more sophisticated look get into cropped tailored jackets, fitted cuff dress shirts, skinny ties, waist coasts and pointy leather shoes.
