By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Australian born, now Los Angeles based, designer Nicholas Bowes and his street cult-chic line KRMA, (Kangaroos Roam Mainland Australia), has certainly made Los Angeles’s who’s next radar. No stranger to the fashion world, Bowes began his career as a model in the late 90’s, but soon cultivated his fashion interests into designing vintage graphic tees. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2006, Bowes has expanded his down under tees to wear with his now perfect wovens, rock star leather leggings, and his iconic cropped leather jackets that Pink and Alicia Keyes just can’t stop wearing. Add Adrian Grenier, Fergie and Bowes’ gal pal Nina Dobrev to KRMA’s roster of fans, and you have a brand that’s become a cult celebrity must have. Dobrev loves the KRMA line so much, she has approached Bowes to collaborate on a capsule collection of sexy leather jackets.

With retailers like Barney’s, Bloomingdales and Fred Segal having picked up on Bowes’ collection, his celebrity cult following, and industry insiders starting to pay a bit more attention, Bowes’expansion to becoming the next commercially viable brand is set in motion.

This Fall 2012 will see this Australian designer based in the USA branch out and form his own Black label collection of men's leather jackets and knits. This new line is very personal to Nicholas, it show cases all his knowledge, creativity and quality that he has collected over the past decade in the cut throat apparel industry. “A lot of people have ideas, but turning those ideas into reality means commitment, persistence and knowledge. The man that will wear my pieces will already have style, he knows that when he puts a Nicholas Bowes jacket on, his confidence and outlook will be complete & the man that doesn’t will be thankful”, said Bowes. “I guarantee that any man who owns a Nicholas Bowes item will have it for a lifetime; the quality, craftsmanship and style make all pieces timeless.”

Nicholas is set to become even more recognised across the United States as part of the new NBC television show “Fashion Star”. The Fashion Star series will give 12 designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar contract to launch their line in America's largest retail stores. Each week, the designers will be put through a variety of challenges that will push them to further develop and expand their brands. Famous designers and buyers from America's largest retailers will serve as the judges, making on-the-spot decisions as they bid against each other, dipping into their own wallets to purchase the work of these up-and-coming designers. These items will shape the future of their stores and create the next big trends for their consumers.

At the end of each episode, America will have the chance to immediately purchase the winning designs showcased on the episode that week. What viewers see on TV that night will be on the streets and in stores the very next day. With just a single trip down the runway, “Fashion Star” will change the lives and fortunes of these aspiring designers forever.
