:: Spotlight :: FRM Model Management continues to break barriers in 2016

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

We have written previously about the outstanding work done by FRM Model Management within the Victorian fashion industry. The experience and vision of owner Stephen Bucknall has seen the business continue to evolve and achieve a great deal of respect. Stephen continues to forge excellent relationships with international agencies and is looking ahead with renewed enthusiasm.

FRM Model Management currently has models active in fashion parades, commercials and photographic work. They also represent stylists, make-up artists, hairdressers and dancers. The company is particularly active in the areas of staging parades and major events.

Where there are undertones of racism within the modelling industry, it has been Stephen Bucknall, and solely Stephen Bucknall, who has championed the cause for more than the white models. He has provided opportunities for several African and Asian girls and boys to give themselves a chance at being a model. He had previously given scope for Eastern European models to show their wares.

Stephen has been quoted many times in criticising the Australian fashion industry who spend their sizeable budgets on Caucasian girls rather than dark skinned models. He speaks highly of Melbourne black model Ajak Deng who has become a big star of the New York modelling scene and who has scored many international jobs, including Italian Vogue, Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs and Valentino, amongst others. The FRM team takes great pride in what Ajak has achieved, in coming from a small western suburbs community to being an outstanding international model. When I spoke to several American models at the Cannes Film Festival this year, they all said they knew and liked Ajak, such is her standing and quality. It is testament to Stephen Bucknall that his vision and foresight saw opportunities for Ajak to succeed, where no other agency would dare.

But Stephen hasn't stood still. He continues to look for suitable young girls and boys who can break through into the industry. He continues to build a solid platform and is ready for any new challenges ahead. I was invited to an FRM model Management promotional day recently where several young people were showcased to a representative from Elite Model Management New York. As 2016 winds up Stephen Bucknall and his FRM Model Management continue to be ever-present in the Melbourne modelling scene and look set for bigger things in the future. I'm sure some of the young talent pictured below can help achieve their goals.
