Hair Expo - the largest hairdressing event in the Southern Hemisphere and most talked about industry event in the world – celebrates its 30th birthday next weekend. Hair Expo will be open at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, throughout the Queen’s Birthday long weekend – 10 to Monday 12 June.

Up to 30,000 industry professionals and members of the public are expected at the weekend’s events, enjoying over 10,000,000 square metres of the best the hair, beauty, and fashion worlds have to offer.

This year, the Monday evening grand finale will see the 21st Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year crowned in the country’s most prestigious and longest running hairdressing awards. Finalists include 2005 winner, Brad Ngata, 2004 winner, Jayne Wild, and Shane Henning, who has won on four previous occasions – more than any other hairdresser. The other seven finalists are Robert Bava (SA), Sharon Blain (NSW), Joharn Cuthbert (WA), Andre Faiva (QLD), Tracey Hughes (VIC), Matt Nischler (TAS) and Adam Noble (ACT).

The program of action and international talent is also bigger and better than ever before. Guest stylists and performers from around the globe will be in Sydney for the show-stopping event, including the man that revolutionised hair fashion and four times British Hairdresser of the Year, Trevor Sorbie, plus Anthony Mascolo, the world’s most revered street fashion hairstylist.

Hair Expo Director, Anthony Wynne-Hoelscher comments, “Hair Expo 2006 has been themed “Proud to be a Hairdresser” - and why wouldn’t you be? There are around 65,000 hairdressers in Australia and between us we maintain a regular ‘feel-good’ relationship with some six million other Australians. We get to share people’s wants, needs and even their dreams – there’s no other job like it!”

“Hair Expo is the industry’s opportunity to celebrate its own passion, creativity, spirit and vitality. And with 2 significant anniversaries this year, being the 30th Hair Expo and the 21st Australian Hairdresser of the Year, we’ll be celebrating like never before!”
