:: Spotlight :: Kirrily Johnston’s ‘Habitat’ collection at RAFW

By: Leena Thompson

Kirrily Johnston’s Habitat collection is inspired by the spaces around us, the fusion of the wild and controlled ,the structures, shapes, colours and comforts of everyday living. Kirrily had an offsite location and held her collection at the famous Bondi Icebergs. The crowded area kept the media squashed however the view was amazing and the collections followed with it. Guests included Terry Biviano, Pip Edwards, Gracie Otto and Erika Heynatz.

Models graced the area and Samantha Harris was in fine form. The models wore high ponytails with an uneven fringe and tanned bronzed makeup. The collection held shades of dust, cinnamon, slate and copper. The collections colour palette references the comforts of a familiar interior space. The signature print of the season is the Bengal print, which has been directly influenced by Kirrily’s new Bengal cat, the appearance of this beautiful animal in the designers home originally inspired the concept of the wild meeting the controlled.

Habitat explores shapes and contrasting textural combinations; key looks are asymmetrical dresses in delicate silk mesh, 70’s style suede, lightweight summer knitwear and tiered silk georgette gowns. Shoes featured calf high sandal boot and towering carved wedges.

Kirrily Johnston is a beautiful lady with a lovely nature she stated her collection is about elegance and modernity. She loves to flatter the female figure and has signature silhouettes. Be sure to view this new collection it’s earthy look is just right for our summer.
