By: Carmine Pascuzzi

True glamour reigned on Melbourne’s busy streets, as Melbourne’s GPO’s Elizabeth Street colonnade was transformed into an opulent and dramatic backdrop for the Designer Fashion Collective Shows. Draped in velvety reds and speckled with gold, Melbourne’s GPO was a gloriously sumptuous platform to showcase the highly anticipated Autumn/Winter ‘09 collections of its leading designers during the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, of which Melbourne’s GPO is a gold sponsor.

The shows featured a selection of key looks from leading Melbourne’s GPO designers including Leona Edmiston, Belinda, Nicolangela, Hussy, Max & Co, Karen Millen England, Arthur Galan AG, Metalicus, Brides of Melbourne, Lisa Ho, Gorman, Veronika Maine, Lella Smith, Ben Sherman and Wayne Cooper, among many others. Hair and beauty looks were created by award winning Creative Director Caterina Dibiase from Heading Out Hair & Beauty.

Melburnians were treated to a fusion of sounds and live performances throughout the exciting runway presentations courtesy of emerging music phenomenon The RAah Project, and the ever-elegant Kirsten McMillan. Kirsten, renowned for her rich and dynamic soprano voice and personality, performed dramatic opening arias, while guests were treated to complimentary decadent Cacao chocolates.
