Q & A

Q. What is your family background?

A. I am Macedonian by heritage.

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. When I was very little (about 4 years old) I had the habit of matching all my clothes together, and I wouldn't wear anything unless it was coordinated. But I wanted to be a writer. Modelling was something that just happened in my teens. I was fortunate enough to work with the best photographer in my city for my first photo-shoot. I loved (and still love) the artistic side of modelling in particular, portraying an emotion and story through a photograph, capturing a moment in its essence.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. I've learnt that (as cliched as it sounds) it is very important to work with a good team of people, people that you feel comfortable with and that have the best interests of the finished product at heart.

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. I feel like every experience I've had in the industry has been a highlight for me. I've worked with some amazing photographers and represented some lovely clothing brands, I've been on magazine covers, done catwalk, glamour/ fashion shoots and a bit of acting.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. I love writing and reading. I love writing because, due to the temporality of life, there's nothing we can really hold onto as time passes, and writing (like photography) is a way to encapsulate the moments we live within, that I sometimes feel we can't live without. I've read so many books (primarily classics) but my favourite authors are Ayn Rand, Fyodr Dostoevsky, Haruki Murakami and Kurt Vonnegut.

Q. Favourite music?

A. My favourite band is “Blue Foundation”, and I also like “Placebo”. My tastes are between those two genres, indie & alternative rock.

Q. Favourite films?

A. I love French films and Arthouse films.

Q. Beauty tips?

A. Controversially, my beauty tip would be… don't obsess about your appearance or (in particular) your insecurities. I feel that the more you focus on perfection the more dissatisfied you will be. Confidence is really important, and if you don't have it, fake it and you'll convince yourself eventually. I'm not the best person to ask for beauty tips because I don't have a beauty care regime, I don't watch what I eat and I don't exercise, I put very little effort in. But one tip I would give is go easy on the foundation (I only wear a tinted moisturizer). I think the trends for caking on foundation layers and contouring your face are a little overrated.

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. I am extremely versatile with my fashion sense, I can never decide on one particular style or image to portray. I think people are multifaceted and complex, and trying to define yourself and confine yourself to one fashion sense is frustrating and boring. Having said that, I've always loved the men's collared shirts and “messy bed hair” look.

Q. What do you feel sexiest wearing?

A. I love lingerie!

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. For young girls aspiring to be models I would say, make sure that you have a stable chosen profession in mind that you're working towards (apart from modelling). Follow your dreams, be motivated, but don't undervalue yourself or restrict your future. You can do more than one thing and be interested in more than one thing at a time. Modelling is a fantastic avenue and it's an interesting industry; just be careful when you choose who you work with and which opportunities you take. It's definitely worth pursuing!

Q. What's the craziest thing that you've done?

A. Generally speaking I'm quite a good girl. But I do like to do at least one “a little bit crazy” thing every day. Life is too short to be mediocre.

Q. What's the funniest pick up line you've encountered?

A. “You must be a magician, because every time I look at you everyone else disappears”.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. My favourite place is Anna Bay. There are huge golden sand dunes that you can take a cardboard box on and slide down. It's so beautiful and peaceful when all you can see is golden sand against the sky.

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. My mum is my role model. She's my best friend and the most endlessly fascinating person I've ever known.

Q. People you've admired generally?

A. I admire Audrey Hepburn, she was a remarkable woman, who was beautiful, intelligent and unique.

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. In regards to the modelling industry, I think there is a bit of an issue with the competitiveness. I'm not a competitive person by nature because I feel putting myself in the competitive mentality is degrading and unnecessarily malicious. So it's upsetting to see it directed at me from others. I much prefer the approach that we are all different and have different things to offer.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. My future ambitions are in furthering my career in writing and taking on as many new opportunities I can both in the modelling world and also in other departments.
