Q & A

Q. What is your family background?

A. Dutch/English - I was born here in Australia but my Mother is from Holland and my Father is from England. At 22 I am the oldest of three children, I have two brothers, aged 18 and 20.

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. It wasn't until about the ages of about 15-16 that I started thinking about doing modelling. It was around that age that I started reading teen magazines and looked up to role models like Miranda Kerr and Elle Macpherson. I started out just doing promo jobs and television extra work which lead to a world of new opportunities for me in the modelling industry.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. The most important thing I have learnt from the modelling scene is to stay true to yourself, dont change the person you are for anybody. It's an exciting industry, but its very easy to get carried away with, so I think it's important to stay grounded rather than letting it go to your head. Modelling has also taught me to be a lot more confident in myself which I think is important because if you don't believe in yourself no one else is going to believe in you either.

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. Runway model for Project Runway designer ‘Matcho Suba’. Catwalk model for an amazing L'Oreal hair show. Meeting some really amazing people and making life-long friends.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. Hanging out with friends, running, playing netball, and when I have time, I do like to unwind by reading a book or doing something arty-crafty.

Q. Favourite music?

A. I enjoy most types of music. It really just depends what sort of mood I'm in at the time.

Q. Favourite films?

A. The Notebook (it gets me every time), PS I Love You. I did also love ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Grind’ when I was younger too.

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. I wouldn't say I have a specific style as such. I like traditional classic pieces that don't go out of date. Every now and then I will wear a statement piece but I would prefer classic pieces that I can mix up and wear again. I don't like anything too over the top, I prefer simple and sleek. I wear mainly black, whites and greys in Winter and like incorporating a bit of colour to freshen it up in the warmer months!

Q. Beauty tips?

A. Always take your make-up off before you go to bed! (even if you've had a really big night). I always use a primer on my skin before I apply any make-up. I highly recommend it.

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. Reach for your dreams. Don't let negative criticism stop you as there will be plenty of that along the way. I say just take it on board and learn from it. Also try to make yourself known - make friends with the people you work with because networking is a great way to open new doors.

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. Haha. If he loves his car, looks after it and treats it like his pride and joy then yes! No, not really… I think a real man would pick his woman over his car any day.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. I absolutely loved Rome when I travelled around Europe. But my favourite place in the world so far would still have to be Wilsons Prom… I have camped down there every year with my family since I was a little girl and I look forward to it every year to this day.

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. Miranda Kerr.

Q. People you've admired generally?

A. Lola Berry - a leading nutritionist in Australia. She's battled with health issues but is the perfect example of someone who has overcome their fears and learnt to make good from their mistakes.

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. Not that I want to go into right now. Don't think it would turn out as a brief discussion more like a 1000 word essay if I feel strongly about something.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. To travel overseas and model internationally. I've always wanted to be a Victoria's Secret model. What I would give to be on that runway for just a split second! (Dreaming - I know!)
