:: Spotlight :: Model Profile - Asha Alba

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

One of Victoria's most loveliest of models is Asha Alba. We recently discovered her as an entrant in the World Supermodel contest, in which she did exceedingly well to finish in the Top 4 in Australia. Her statuesque European looks (think Monica Bellucci) bode well for her as she looks to extend her career overseas. Asha has steadily built up a very good portfolio and has worked in Japan, China and Hong Kong. It shouldn't be too long before other nations notice her.

Q & A

Q. What is your family background?

A. My family background is Australian Italian

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. I started modelling at 8 years old, so all through my teens I was wanting to further my career.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. I have learnt many things from being in the modelling scene - one of the most important things is to never put myself down if I don't get the job. The way I look at it is that I must not have been the look they were going for at the time. In saying that I should never give up on doing what I love most.

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. There have been many things that I am proud of, but the main things are getting the opportunity to travel and make new clients and friends along the way.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. I enjoy designing and making my own clothes. It gives me a chance to use my imagination and turn my ideas into something useful.

Q. Favourite music?

A. I like most music. At the moment I am currently managing a nightclub and, since working there, I have really got into house music.

Q. Favourite films?

A. I love watching old films - black and whites are my favourite

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. I like to be wearing what's in at the time but I suppose people would say I go for a more conservative classy look. I love the 50s and 60s era. Women were so elegant back then.

Q. Beauty tips?

A. My biggest beauty tip would have to be take care of yourself - exercise, healthy eating, and lots of water.

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. It's a hard industry and the work isn't all glamorous like people say. But seeing the work we have created at the end of the day or realising who I have been fortunate enough to meet and see the places it has taken me, it is definitely worth the long hard days.

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. If a man treats his car with respect, loves it and looks after it, then sure I think all men should.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. I have enjoyed every place that I've been to. They all have great memorable times, but if there was one place I could go back to it would probably be Hong Kong. I love the people there and have made so many friends there.

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. I would have to say that my mum has been my biggest role model. She has taught me so much in life and I wouldn't have got so far in my career if it wasn't for her.

Q. People you've admired generally?

A. Audrey Hepburn has always been a celebrity that I have admired. She always had such class and elegance.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. In the future I hope to transform my modelling career into an even more successful one, and hopefully it gives me the chance to work for and meet new, amazing people. I'd like to one day learn more about my family background by working in and exploring Italy.
