:: Spotlight :: Model Profile - Erica Joleen

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Every once in a while, in the busy world of modelling, where young girls and guys aspire and work hard to achieve their particular goals, one comes across a personality of great presence. Some hit the mark as far as being humble and friendly, others a little more brash and carefree. One young woman who has made a great impression on me for her keenness to succeed while remaining level-headed is Erica Joleen.

Erica is from San Diego, California and her career is on the upward spiral as a glamour model, with some great work done already in print, marketing and videos. This has opened the door for her to work with several talented photographers across California and I am really glad to have the opportunity to showcase Erica on our pages.

Q & A

Q. What is your family background?

A. I was born in America. However, my mother is Peruvian, and my father, well, he was adopted. But when I was 17 I did some deep ancestral research and discovered his ancestors are of German, English and Native American descent

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. There was something always inside me since I was a little girl that made me want to be a model. I'm still pursuing that dream and to also include working with animals towards habitat conservation.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. The modelling scene is practically a lion's den. You must enter the den knowing you may get hurt. My skin is definitely thicker now because of this. In this world, you can never be good enough. So set your own personal standards and soar!

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. As of now a few online magazine publications and Romance Covers. Just this last holiday season my first appearance on a Crest White Strips commercial. But, I feel as if my hot streak with modelling is coming real soon.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. I love to read, study and practice shamanism (it is more my way of life, now) and I enjoy hiking, tanning and playing at the beach.

Q. Favourite music?

A. I have a wide range of music tastes. I can listen to anything. But I prefer heavy metal, classic rock, or just plain good oldies.

Q. Favourite films?

A. My favourite film is Frankenstein, with Boris Karloff from 1931. Oh, and I love Dark Passages with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. So romantic!

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. Yoga pants and tank tops all the way. I choose comfort over style any day.

Q. Beauty tips?

A. Drink lots of water everyday! The key to a healthy body and skin.

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. Prepare yourselves to be chewed up and spat back out. Remember the “Golden Rule” - listen to your instincts.

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. Well, some men don't take care of their cars and some do. But, a man should take care of both his car and his woman.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. The Grand Teton national park in Wyoming. There's nothing like seeing wild buffalo. I watched a ceremony called the Bison hunt, where it was traditionally killed by bow and arrow, and they sipped their blood in honour of their sacred significance.

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. Jared Leto - a WWF member. He loves animals and the Earth and wishes to conserve it like I do. I also admire Elizabeth Taylor; a timeless beauty.

Q. People you've admired generally?

A. I admire my mom. And I forever admire veterans. Overall, the perseverance of those who have survived atrocities. I know a warrior when I see one.

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. The wildlife black market trade. Specifically about ivory. Dozens of rhinos and elephants are slaughtered everyday for their horns and tusks. As well as other animals such as tigers, who are killed for their meat. All these animals are said to have medicinal properties in their horns and body, which of course isn't true. However, that is the reason why they are being killed. Once the buying of these body parts stop, so will the killing.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. First, I want to accomplish where I want to be as a model, and to pursue wildlife conservation to our planet and all the animals. So I can give my future children a more beautiful world to live in
