:: Spotlight :: Model Profile - Lucille Croft

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Melbourne's home-grown modelling talent continues to grow with many multi-talented young women creating storms around the fashion and beauty industries. One such person is the lovely Lucille Croft. Lucille is from the renowned Brazen Talent stable and has shown exceptional modelling ability. She did take some time off to pursue another passion - becoming a DJ. Having undertaken a production course about eighteen months ago, Lucille has developed a unique combination of deep house, house, tech house and techno. Her reputation for her sound and talent is becoming entrenched in the local scene,

Some of her biggest influences today are acts such as Ame, Kink, Maceo Plex/Maetrik, Dixon, Pachanga Boys and Daniel Avery. Lucille has held residencies at venues such as Trak, Cushion, OneSixOne, Barkly and Eureka Hotel, just to name a few, as well as guest spots all around Melbourne including Revolver, Anyway and Pawn & Co. In the last year Lucille has had her first international gigs playing in Bali at Cocoon and Bounty. She has enhanced her reputation with her shows at festivals and other clubs due to her relationship with prolific Melbourne label Suckmusic. It is therefore time we had a chat to this talented model and DJ.

Q. What is your family background?

A. German/Australian

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. Umm, yes and no. Part of nearly every young girl wants to model, but I never really thought I would until I was scouted at 16, and I was absolutely ecstatic when that happened.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. God, so much. I’ve learnt so much about the modelling and fashion industries; how It all comes together and especially how hard models actually work (turns out we don’t just stand there and look pretty). Through modelling I've learnt a lot about myself, especially how to take care of myself – what to eat, exercising properly, etc.

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. I really couldn’t choose one at the moment. I’ve only been back on board modelling again after a break for about six months and every shoot I've been lucky enough to have been working with an amazing team.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. Yoga, horse riding, DJing, Xbox.

Q. Favourite music?

A. I love my deep house, tech house/techno, as well as bands. Fave artists at the moment are Gesaffelstein, Maceo Plex, Dusky, Bring Me The Horizon, DZ Deathrays to name a few. Quite a mix up.

Q. Favourite films?

A. How To Train Your Dragon.

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. I’m normally pretty casual to be honest. I pretty much live in my favourite pair of black skinny jeans and a plain tee most days with a nice pair of platforms/flatforms.

Q. Beauty tips?

A. I’m really into natural remedies myself and I find they’re better for your body too. Tea tree oil for any blemishes is always amazing, and coconut oil for your hair is the best thing I’ve discovered since Menulog.

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. For girls who are looking to get signed, you need to keep at it. You might have to go to five agencies before someone takes an interest in you. It’s a tough industry with a lot of competition. And also to be healthy – eating and exercise. Agencies and clients like healthy, fit models, not malnourished girls who are starving themselves!

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. I think that would depend entirely on how he treats his car - haha.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. I haven’t had many opportunities to travel just yet, due to commitments here, however Bali is an all time favourite for me.

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. Angelina Jolie would be my #1 role model if I were to have one. She’s beautiful, crazily successful, kills it in her profession, and does a lot of work with charities and the UN.

Q. People you've admired generally?

A. There are a lot of people I look up to in all three industries I work in (fashion, music and modelling). I really admire those I've met who are really successful and have given me the time and effort to help me along the way.

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. No.

Q. You are also a DJ. Tell us about starting that career and where it has taken you so far?

A. Yes, I am. I started about two years ago when I was hosting in nightclubs and saw a female DJ one night and thought she was awful so I decided I’d give it a crack. I bought my own decks and taught myself and a few months later I was at my first gig! It’s been a super fun journey, and I play every week now at various clubs/events. I’ve played interstate a few times and overseas once, with this year looking to be my biggest yet.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. I’d love to continue with modelling and see where that takes me, and I’m also pretty serious my DJing. I’m starting to make music and would love to continue with that! Also, I’m finishing my last year of Fashion Design at Whitehouse this year so I plan on launching my own womenswear label in the next few years too.
