:: Spotlight :: Model Profile - Michelle Leigh

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

It's been a little unusual for us to feature very experienced models. However, we are fortunate, in this case, to profile the lovely Chicago model Michelle Leigh on our Mediasearch website. Michelle is an all-round, versatile and talented model, having worked at numerous shows and events - swimwear, lingerie, fashion and trade shows. A look at her extensive portfolio shows her quality but it hasn't been an easy road to success for the widely-travelled model and mother.

Q & A

Q. What is your family background?

A. My parents are German and Scottish, but I was born in the USA. I live in Chicago, Illinois.

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. Yes, From about the age of 13 I wanted to model. I used to save magazine pages of the models I admired. Growing up in a small town, I struggled to learn about the business and fell for several scams.

Q. What have you discovered / learnt from the modelling scene?

A. Some things I learned the hard way: Not everyone with a camera is a photographer and a good portfolio usually requires an investment. Legitimate agencies never charge a fee to join or force models to take classes.

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. US Foster's Grid Girl, appeared in several commercials. Full resume here

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. Working out, cooking, redecorating my house

Q. Favourite music?

A. I listen to a variety music

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. Simple but sexy. I don't typically follow trends.

Q. Beauty tips?

A. Less is more. I always see girls on Facebook and Instagram taking daily selfies with full faces of make-up, including false lashes and I wonder how agonizing it is to paint the face on every day! I can't live without bronzer, mascara, and lip gloss.. but I don't make up my whole face unless I have to.

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. Be realistic about your looks and what types of modelling you can or can't do. Never pay an agency to join, and only invest in a portfolio if an agency is interested in representing you. Many times you will get a free test.

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. Depends on how well he takes care of his car!

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. Melbourne Australia. I had a blast working during the Grand Prix.

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. I was bulimic for ten years; so eating disorder awareness is something I feel strongly about. In the past I've worked with eating disorder organizations and I've spoken to school children about my experiences.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. Re-write a book I published many years ago about my modelling experiences and eating disorder struggles
