By: Carmine Pascuzzi

We begin the 2015 series of model profiles with a feel-good story of the highest order. Western Australian beauty Nicole Dowling had suffered the bullying experience when growing up in Geraldton. However, Nicole has shown great character to build a modelling career and in 2014 was Miss Galaxy Western Australia. Her resilience and confidence has grown to a point where she is influencing others through public speaking and undertaking charity work. Now based in Perth Nicole has a bright future ahead in terms of modelling and in taking on social issues.

Q. What is your family background?

A. I often get told I look Italian but I'm actually full Australian with English and Irish descent

Q. Did you grow up in your early teens wanting to be a model?

A. Definitely not, I joined the modeling world roughly three years ago by entering on stage bikini competitions. I was bullied right up until I was 22 so I never had the self esteem I do today

Q. What have you discovered/learnt from the modelling scene?

A. I've learnt that everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. A lot of people judge models and think it's a waste of time or they're bimbos walking around in bikinis, when really they're everyday people who are trying to challenge themselves and achieve goals

Q. Career highlights to date?

A. 2014 Miss Galaxy WA; 2nd Runner Up Miss Hawaiian Tropics WA; being featured in 3 calendars in 2014; and a few others I have 15 sashes for.

Q. Favourite hobbies?

A. Definitely modelling, going to the beach, catching up with my friends over a nice dinner

Q. Favourite music?

A. Top 40 type hits, anything I can sing along to.

Q. Favourite films?

A. Avengers, Step Brothers, anything ghostly, scary. I'm into action and scary movies, no love stories.

Q. What is your fashion sense?

A. This can change day to day, but generally nice and classy most days! Other days I'll be in shorts, singlet and a snapback hat

Q. Beauty tips?

A. Get lots of sleep! And moisturise daily

Q. Advice for young girls aspiring to be models?

A. Go for it! You can do anything! There's so many types of modelling you can do so research and try doing as many as possible and then decide which area suits you best.

Q. Do you think a man should treat a woman like he does his car?

A. No, I think he should treat her even better. Men will always have their toys so women should embrace the fact he will always make you wipe your feet before sitting in the passenger seat. In return he will treat you like a princess.

Q. Favourite place visited?

A. I would have to say Alice Springs for the 2013 Finke Desert Race. It's an amazing event and I can't wait to go back to watch in 2015

Q. Do you have a role model/s?

A. I don't have any role models in particular, I admire people who can achieve their dreams and still stay grounded

Q. Are there any issues that you feel strongly about and would like to briefly discuss?

A. Bullying! No, you shouldn't just ignore it because it won't go away. Parents need to educate their children that it's not ok. I would love to travel to schools and help get the message out there that there is help and these bully victims are not alone or in the wrong.

Q. Future ambitions?

A. I would love to be a cover model and also represent Australia in an international pageant in 2015, as well as be an Anti Bullying Spokesperson.
