:: Spotlight :: 2004 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

In one of the more popular events of the Melbourne Spring calendar, the glamour of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) is almost upon us again. Largely a free fashion event for the public, a huge number of events will take place within the Melbourne Central Business District from September 6-12, 2004.

MSFW usually brings a boost to the retail economy and the public will have the opportunity to be at over 100 official events, ranging from fashion parades, exhibitions, and store launches. During the day, the country’s best fashion labels and retailers will launch their Spring/Summer collection in-store. At night, some of the emerging new talent will unveil their collections at the spectacular new venue – The Flowerhouse at Federation Square. These evening parades will be free and will be repeated twice each evening.

Another key aspect of MSFW is that two new retail precincts will participate – the QV retail development, which features Albert Coates Lane, and the newest retail complex, GPO Melbourne. They will host a range of daytime parades and will attract much interest.

The centre of attention will be:

Tuesday, September 7 – Price On Application – designers featured are Alannah Hill, AG, Lisa Ho, Nicola Finetti, Mad Cortes, Herringbone, Ty & Melita, and Toni Matichevski, plus jewellers Jan Logan, Kozminsky, and Rutherford.

Wednesday, September 8 – Undercover – designers featured are Davenport, Edgar, Flamingo Sands, Sabi, Smitten Kitten, and Wayne Cooper.

Thursday, September 9 – The Birdcage – designers featured are Dom Bagnato, Cose Ipanema, Cactus Jam, Gwendolynne, Ivy Hopes, Christine, Anna Thomas, Flinders Way, Husk, Kenzo, Moya Delany, Lorena Laing, Richard Nylon, and Liza Stedman.

Friday, September 10 – Rising Sun – Arabella Ramsay, Belinda Fairbanks, Camilla & Marcs, Bowie, Langer Lulatcsh, Lucy Hinkfuss, Rapa Jeans, Roger Grinstead, and jewellery by Tribu.

A different internationally renowned stylist and DJ will create each Flowerhouse show.
Hairstyling and products by acclaimed stylist Kevin Murphy.

The times for the two nightly Flowerhouse parades are 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Tickets are free and can be booked from September 1 from the official website
