It took 70 models, 40 brands and 200 outfit changes to create the 2009 Myer Spring/ Summer collection held at the popular venue Carriageworks, Eveleigh. There was a bedazzling 14 metre high image of Jennifer Hawkins surrounded by swirls of rainbow colour to promote the season’s theme of ‘colour’ at the start of the catwalk. The star-studded event held over 500 guests, amongst the A-listers, Danni Minogue dressed in Victoria Beckham, Lara Bingle, Tom Williams, Lady Sonia McMahon, Jake Wall and Gracie Otto. The top designers, Aurelio Costarella, Jayson Brunsdon, Carla Zampatti, Karen Walker, Toni Maticevski and Wayne Cooper.

The parade opened brightly with an array of coloured gowns, with Jennifer Hawkins leading the way in a breathtaking full- length metallic gold couture gown. Bright bald colours made their fabric mark. Coral and Orange’s were amongst the popular shades for this summer season. The designers did not hold back cultivating the true meaning of fashion - tailored cut cocktail mini dresses, chic skirts, asymmetric necklines and many ruffles. Metallics and sequins have made a come back and faded denim showed appearances.

Stand out designers were Karen Walker, Toni Maticevski, Manning Cartell, Camiila and Marc and Carla Zampatti. Jennifer Hawkins showcased her own swimwear label ‘Cozi’ with a custom made, one of a kind Swarovski crystal bikini that stole the show. Another jaw dropping moment was Danni Minogue’s very toned beau Kris Smith modelling Euro-style trunks by Arena - he led the males on the catwalk.

Carla Zampatti stunned guests with a soft pink taffeta gown worn by Jennifer, arched folds of fabric across the neckline inspired by the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Jennifer closed the show in a lavish Aurelio Costarella flamed coloured strapless dress.

The official after party offered guests sumptuous cocktails and delicious middle eastern canapés. The atmosphere was electrifying, Designers were shining, Celebrities and guests mingling amongst each other and making the most of the night. Myer certainly did not cut any costs and showed no signs of a recession.
