:: Spotlight :: 2009 Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival

By: Leena Thompson

As a glamorous prelude to the first day of Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival (RSFF) shows, Jayson Brunsdon and IMG Fashion will celebrate by staging an official gala opening event with marie claire, Australia’s number one fashion magazine, hosting red carpet arrivals in the RSFF marquee at Martin Place.

The Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival Official Opening Gala Event is scheduled to take place on the evening of Monday August 17. Funds raised by the event will be donated to UNICEF Australia to support children orphaned by AIDS. Several high profile celebrity ambassadors are expected to attend and take their front row seats to show their support to this worthy cause. Leading models walk the runway in the latest Jayson Brunsdon creations for his Spring Summer collection just as it hits the shop floor.

This gala evening will kick start the event’s official schedule at which Australia’s biggest fashion designers, red carpet celebrities and most fashionable retailers will present a style spectacular of scheduled and satellite events for the public from August 17 - 22, 2009. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet, soak up the atmosphere and watch the show in the company of an A-list crowd including designer Jayson Brunsdon. The event aims to encourage the public to head direct from the catwalk into stores to purchase the latest product straight from the runway, with retail incentive offers and special VIP deals for ticket holders. A specially erected, state-of-the-art marquee complete with lights, cameras and plenty of action, will be proudly positioned in the heart of the city at Martin Place. At the same time a full fringe festival of events, taking in the CBD, Paddington and surrounds, will also form part of the official schedule.

Designers and retailers on show at this year’s Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival will include leading brands such as; Anna & Boy, Aurelio Costarella, Bec & Bridge, Camilla & Marc, David Lawrence, Fernando Frisoni, Gail Sorronda, Gary Bigeni, Ginger and Smart, Jayson Brunsdon, Karla Spetic, Kate Sylvester, Kirrily Johnston, Konstantina Mittas, Lisa Ho, Magdalena Velevska, Manning Cartell, Marnie Skillings, Michael Lo Sordo, MYER, Nicola Finetti, Romance Was Born, Sara Phillips, Seafolly, Therese Rawsthorne, Wayne Cooper, and Zambesi - to name just a few!

**Wrap-up of the week**

Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival August 2009
The Week in Review

The festival in its second year staged more than fifteen official parades over six days featuring the collections of top local and international designers. Aimed for the consumers it was a successful turnout, with strong ticket sales and many shows reaching a full house status. Designers included Jayson Brunsdon, Alex Perry, Wayne Cooper, Kirilly Johnston, Camilla and Marc, Lisa Ho, Manning Cartel, Bec and Bridge, Camilla, Seafolly and many more.

This season’s collections were toned down due to the economic crisis, but that aside there was still a dazzling array of eye-catching fashion. Designers tended to play safe with neutral tones, instead of bright colours of usual summer patterns. This spring/summer season hues are blacks, whites, creams and pale pinks.

Alex Perry said, “Its an investment for the consumer. It was everything from really great little sexy black cocktail dresses for younger girls right through to red carpet worthy dresses.”

It was wonderful to view the public and the number of ticket holders who made an effort to look extremely stylish. Basing this assumption it should encourage designers to come up with innovative and chic designs to cater for the consumers needs.

This season's hot new looks are asymmetrical necklines, ruffles and bold detailed shoulders inspired by Balmain and Louis Vuitton’s recent collections. Sharply tailored black mini dresses were a hit, with metallic gold and silver textures recurring for closing numbers. Large sequins and gold and silver studs added spark to tops and faded denim made several appearances. Gold chains and zippers were all the go on pants and jackets. Slits were also popular with bold colours peeping through. Chic Skirts and three quarter shorts also made their mark on the runway. Gold Gold Gold is the new Silver for Accessories.

VIP guests throughout the six days included Ryan Stokes, Erin McNaught, Jason Dundas, Renee Bargh, Tara Moss, Zoe Naylor, Charlotte Dawson, and Jason Coleman.

The Rosemount O Bar had a relaxing chilled atmosphere before and after the shows. It catered well for the VIP’s and ticket holding guests. Canapes were served, with ample drinks on tap. Rosemount trialled their Shiraz by serving it chilled, myself and many others thought it went down well. Promotional girls and boys were handing out bottles of Perrier mineral water.

The stand out design collection has to go to Alex Perry. Once again this brilliant designer shows why he is at the top of his game, lavish affordable gowns, featuring fine attention to detail and most certainly flattering to the female figure.

Other standout collections were Jayson Brunsdon, Wayne Cooper, Camilla and Marc, Bec and Bridge, Kirrily Johnston, Camilla, Seafolly, Manning Cartel, Romance was Born and Kym Ellery.

The standout entertaining show was Ed Hardy with the models being cheeky and having fun, high fiving each other on the catwalk and flirting with the media. “So You Think You Can Dance” performers danced a number on the catwalk and wooed the crowd. Nacho Pop made an appearance and did a small performance modeling for Frisoni.

Other standout events from the week, away from the Martin Place tent, were The Myer launch and fashion show, which attracted a line of A-list stars including Jennifer Hawkins and Danni Minogue, the other being Samantha Wills’ luncheon to showcase her new range of jewellery.
