**Post-event wrap**

In its second big year, Salon Melbourne returned to Australia’s style capital as the biggest, brightest and boldest hair and beauty trade event the country has ever seen. Bringing together the crème de la crème of the world’s hottest hair and beauty talent, the newest products and the latest cutting edge technologies, Salon Melbourne kept visitors enthralled over two big days at Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Main Stage Catwalk was the bustling epicentre of the show. It was standing room only around the sleek runway as the crowd was blown away by impressive live demonstrations from industry legends Sharon Blain, Rae Morris, Brad Mullins, Nigel Stanislaus and Caterina DiBiase. The catwalk shows Autumn Armour, Crème Caramel and 60’s Ladylike perfectly fused fashion, makeup, hair and nails, showcasing the key trends for Autumn/Winter ’11. The event’s fashion credentials were given a sizeable boost by the appearance of UK celeb stylist Gok Wan, who attended the event to support the launch of his friend Rae Morris’s new book Express Makeup.

Two of the hottest destinations at this year’s show were the pamper and chill-out zones: the Express at Salon Melbourne Styling Bar and the Garden Bar. Express at Salon Melbourne offered visitors blow-dries by the masterful team at Matrix, luxurious Spa Manicures by Bio Sculpture and Makeup Refreshers by Gorgeous Cosmetics, all while sipping a cheeky Peach Bellini or a glass of bubbly. Close by, visitors, exhibitors, media and industry heavyweights met at the super sleek Garden Bar, decorated in decadent, minimalist white, complete with white leather banquettes.

Of course, as with all industry trade shows, there were lots of new hair and beauty products and the latest technologies on show. This excitement, alongside the truly fascinating masterclasses helmed by fashion’s finest Rae Morris, Brad Ngata and Caterina DiBiase and interactive hands-on workshops conducted by esteemed beauty school Elly Lukas, the weekend was a powerful reminder of the strength and talent that can be found in our local hair and beauty industry.

Event Director Lauren Ebbeck was thrilled by the sheer energy she felt on the exhibit floor and was inspired by the amazing talent gathered under one roof, “I’m in awe of Salon Melbourne this year. The big thing for us in 2011 was to ramp up the education element of the event and I think the demonstrations on the main stage and education sessions have delivered more than we could have hoped for. I think the link between fashion, hair and beauty has been so strong this year and the buzz on the floor has been amazing. I really hope Melbourne has enjoyed the show as much as I have,”

But the beauty inspiration doesn’t end at Salon Melbourne! The very latest and greatest in beauty and spa will be on show at the highly anticipated Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo, Australia’s largest event for the spa & beauty industries. Stay tuned for updates on hot happenings at this year’s event. The Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo hits Sydney on August 13 & 14 at the Sydney Convention & Entertainment Centre. Registrations open in June.
