:: Spotlight :: ShortStraw pulls crowd for summer party
By: Carmine Pascuzzi
New Australian, neu-vintage surf label, ShortStraw, celebrated the start of summer in style recently by collaborating with Vice Records to host an exclusive party that attracted a ‘strictly limited’ number of 250 of Sydney's coolest kids.
The Black Lips took time from their sold-out tour schedule to support their designer friends. The LA-based band entertained with their signature garage stomp sound whilst local talent Yves Klein Blue (Brisbane) and The Disbelievers (Sydney) rocked revellers with their perfectly casual folk/rock guitar sounds.
The Swiss Grande defined their own history by finally succumbing and opening their famous pool deck to a private party. Sadly short lived, damp party goers had no qualms about assisting an emergency relocation to the hotel’s ballroom. The iconic hotel and Sydney landmark hopes that by letting the craziest crew in town through their doors, they’ve paved the way to becoming the hot-spot for summers to come.
Faces in the crowd included design duo Fern Levack & Damion Fuller, MTV’s Darren McMullen, Cleo’s Nedahl Stelio, Triple J’s Grace Jones and Modular-signed San Diego rockers, The Softlightes.
Thirsts were quenched thanks to Corona and Jagermeister and guests, of course, enjoyed a customary summer barbecue fired up (pre-rain!) by the ‘Shortie’ crew themselves.
