:: Spotlight :: Topshop and Topman to open in Melbourne in December 2011

After months of speculation, Next Athleisure Company recently announced it has earned the exclusive Australian franchise rights for TOPSHOP and TOPMAN, the UK-based retail fashion phenomena. Operating in over 750 stores worldwide, Australia will be the 32nd country to welcome a TOPSHOP store.

“We couldn’t be more excited about adding TOPSHOP and TOPMAN to our portfolio,” said Hilton Seskin chairman of Next Athleisure. “Those in the know have been anxiously waiting for TOPSHOP and TOPMAN to come to Australia on a large scale, and we are thrilled to deliver”.

Sir Philip Green commented, “I am delighted to be launching the TOPSHOP and TOPMAN brands in Australia. This represents another step in our continued international growth, and I am confident that the Australian customers will enjoy the retail experience and fantastic product offer that both our brands will deliver for them”.

This franchisee agreement will see TOPSHOP and TOPMAN launch its first store in The Jam Factory, Chapel Street, Melbourne in December 2011. This store will comprise of 1300m2 of retail space, housing all of the brands latest key trends across both womens and menswear, with a host of signature departments showcasing the best the two brands have to offer.

Since it launched in 1964, TOPSHOP has become a major style authority and one of fashion’s biggest success stories. With a rich heritage in street culture, TOPSHOP is a cultural icon and has become synonymous with British fashion. TOPSHOP began life as Peter Robinson's Top Shop, a young fashion brand in the basement of the former department chain, Peter Robinson Ltd. The first stand alone TOPSHOP store was opened in 1974. In 1994, the TOPSHOP flagship store was born, as the brand took over a 90,000 sq ft space at London Oxford Circus. It remains there today, and is considered the world’s largest fashion store on the high street, attracting over 200,000 shoppers each week.
