:: Spotlight :: Melbourne Underground Fashion Festival 2004

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

This year’s Underground Fashion Festival celebrates Melbourne’s unique local designers and boutiques in a week of parades at the stylish F4 nightclub in Little Collins Street, Melbourne. From August 28 to September 1, packed crowds are expected to see some of the emerging talent on show. F4 has hosted many fashion shows in its time and has stepped forward again to provide these opportunities. It will be a good prelude to the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, which commences on September 6.

The program for F4 is:

Saturday, August 28 – 7.00pm
Funky new street wear and accessories from underground Melbourne designers including ‘Trojan Virus’ and ‘Six Heads;

Monday, August 30 – 7.00pm
Sweet Vinegar is a fashion event borne out of a simple principle – to support and provide exposure and a retail platform for young Australian designers
Watch for designs from Isabella, Minosh, Phoebe Montague, and others.

Tuesday, August 31 – 7.00pm
Ryan Whelan won two categories in the 2003 Victorian final of the Australian Fashion Design Awards (menswear and lifestyle collections). Ryan’s specialty is to use natural fabrics that drape well and feel comfortable. Look out for his fully functional fashions.
