:: Grabbing the Goanna

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Goanna has maintained a trusted place in Australian householders’ bathroom cabinets and sports bags for generations, with Australians ‘grabbing the Goanna’ for almost everything from soothing aches and pains through to freshening the washing. In 2010, Goanna reaches a milestone celebrating its 100th year as a true blue saviour.

As the name suggests, Goanna originally contained oil from the native Australian reptile. While travelling through outback Queensland, founder J.C. Marconi, observed Aboriginals using the oil to help heal their wounds. Intrigued, Marconi learnt more about bush medicine and the healing qualities of goanna oil, later launching his famous bottled products in 1910.

Today’s Goanna products are unique formulations that combine natural Australian oils including eucalyptus, pine, peppermint and menthol with modern pharmaceutical ingredients.

We gained observations from several folk and all give Goanna a ringing endorsement. The Goanna Arthritis Cream offers effective relief of pain associated with arthritis by providing penetrating and soothing relief through its application. It is particularly handy for targeted pain areas such as knees, shoulders and hands. To use: massage generously into painful areas until thoroughly absorbed into the skin. Use up to three to four times per day as required and at night before going to bed.

The Goanna Eucalyptus Oil has proved to be a multi-purpose product - being used as an oil diffuser for clearing the air of cooking smells. You can also place a few drops onto a tissue under a pillow when you have a head cold. The Goanna Oil Liniment is used by athletes to ease pain in their muscles. Similarly for the Heat Cream.

Goanna is proudly Australian made and owned and Australians have been 'grabbing the GOANNA’ for almost 100 years to help relieve the aches and pains of sore muscles and joints.
