:: Fashion Incubator’s first couture fashion paradeBy: Carmine PascuzziMelbourne Central hosted Fashion Incubator’s first couture fashion parade, Skyline: Incubator Inspired, recently as part of the Victorian State of Design Festival. The parade took place in the heart of Melbourne Central on the main piazza and showcased a range of elaborate garments created by young designers at Fashion Incubator Melbourne Central.
Each fashion item was motivated by and conceptualised around landmark architectural sites in Melbourne and reflected the city’s beautiful skyline. A one-night only show, the parade hosted a collection of ten structural garments from designers labels Josua Andreas, Ryan Whelan, Fugue, Clube Do Loser, Boski, Omnicron, Joli and special guest designer Jenny Bannister. Skyline: Incubator Inspired had glimpses of Australia’s future fashionistas at work as they exhibited their visual interpretations of some of the most unique and spectacular architecture within Melbourne.
Fashion Incubator Melbourne Central is a not-for-profit organisation that affords young, emerging, Australian designers the platform to build sustainable and successful business enterprises. Their fifteen resident designers are supported through facilitation of workspaces, provision of materials, industry knowledge and business seminars. Most importantly, though, Melbourne Central has provided Fashion Incubator with a prime store location to exhibit their collection on level two. Fashion Incubator Melbourne Central have previously showcased the work of their young talents at various state and national fashion weeks, however, this was their first foray into the world of couture.
