Pictured: Snowtown was one of the big winners at the inaugural AACTA Awards held at the Sydney Opera House. Amongst the acting and technical awards it won was a first up Best Director award to Justin Kurzel. Casting has commenced on BLINDER, a new Australian feature film which will begin production in Torquay, Victoria on February 20, 2012, before moving to Boston, Massachusetts to complete filming. Universal Studios will mark its 100th anniversary in 2012, and will commemorate with a year-long celebration honouring the studio's rich film history and cultural legacy. The campaign draws its inspiration from Universal's extraordinary and diverse library of films, many of which will be highlighted throughout the year, and is designed to engage fans of all ages in the art of moviemaking. Australian company Mini Studios recently announced their involvement in an untitled feature produced by Peter Farrelly of Farrelly Brothers fame (There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal) and Charles B. Wessler (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal). Warner Bros. Pictures announced recently that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises". She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Australian producers John Polson and Gary Hamilton recently announced that they will partner on a feature film entitled SYDNEY, I LOVE YOU, scheduled to go into production in early 2012. The film will be a love letter from Australia's top film talent to one of the great cities of the world. One of the most unique film festivals in Australia, the third annual Warrambeen Film Festival, has announced that earlybird tickets are now on sale for the event on March 3, 2012. Held on a working sheep, crop and free range pig farm between Geelong and Ballarat in country Victoria, screens will be found in unique locations including the 1832 bluestone woolshed, an outdoor fruit orchard and old paddock creek bed. |
