Popular US actor Ashton Kutcher hit the black carpet in Melbourne recently when the premiere of his new film ‘Killers’ occurred at South Yarra's Jam Factory cinemas. Alongside him for the promotional tour was director Robert Luketic. See the story in the Film Spotlights section.

Australian company Mini Studios recently announced their involvement in an untitled feature produced by Peter Farrelly of Farrelly Brothers fame (There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal) and Charles B. Wessler (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal).

Short film The Apprentice, written by Brisbane local Steve Baker, was shot in the Melbourne CBD recently. The project is one of just two dozen short comedy films to be produced and released as one film by Farrelly and Wessler later this year through Summit Entertainment in the US.

Melbourne-based director and animator Michael Hill will be enjoying his bananas more these days after his film ‘The Not-So-Great Eugene Green’ won China’s most prestigious short animation award, the ‘Monkey King Award’ for the Best Foreign Short Animated Film Great Prize.

The long awaited directorial debut from Richard Gray, SUMMER CODA, is confirmed to release in Australian cinemas on October 21. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the orange groves of Mildura along the Murray River, SUMMER CODA is a refreshing romance starring Rachael Taylor and Alex Dimitriades, plus a stellar supporting cast including Susie Porter, Jacki Weaver, Nathan Phillips, Angus Sampson and Cassandra McGrath.

The narrative jumps around (much like the games it is channelling) and skips forward in order to move onto the next scenario quickly, much like a transporting character from a computer game. The editing is quick and tight, the colours flashy and bright, but the storyline is very simple and enjoyable.
