:: A Day And A Notte with John Barresi

John Barresi has been one of Australia's finest comedians, particularly with the Italian community. His interpretations on Italian characters in a stand-up sense are usually hilarious and he has starred in many fun-packed theatre shows over a long period of time. His most notable commercial foray was back in the late 1990s when he starred alongside Nick Giannopoulos, Vince Colosimo and Alex Dimitriades in the smash hit play Wogboys. The Wogboy film also saw John play a leading role. He has since continued to excel in his Italian characterisations, bringing immense pleasure and laughter to audiences.

The DVD “A Day And A Notte” shows him in good form again, mixing classic old jokes and fresh new material, confirming his presence as one of the country's best stand-up comedians. His work depicts real people in real situations, something that most Italian families, in particular, will recognise easily. You need to be in step and follow the quick-witted style from the well-loved Barresi.

This DVD showscases an on-stage performance in the Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre in Melbourne. Perhaps this DVD takes a little while to get into. It is a steady beginning, but John really comes into his own when playing the parts of Mamma and Nonno Menza Testa. There is an endearing charm and heartwarming performance.

I still believe that John is better with a team of comedians as a point of playing characters off each other. He can be an excellent sidekick. However, with A Day And A Notte, John should be pleased as a means of exemplifying his renowned style. It will bring good laughs.
