:: A Mighty Heart

Based on Mariane Pearl's memoir, detailing the tragic story of her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl's life and death. On January 23, 2002, Mariane Pearl's world changed forever. Her husband, the South Asia bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, was researching a story on shoe bomber Richard Reid. The story drew them to Karachi where a go-between had promised access to an elusive source. As Danny left for the meeting, he told Mariane he might be late for dinner. He never returned.

The story covers Danny's reasons for being in Karachi, Pakistan, the complete story of his abduction, the intense effort of his wife, Mariane Pearl, to find him during the weeks following his disappearance and his eventual murder.

A Mighty Heart is a genuine and heartfelt account of tragedy. The excellent performances reflect a true sense of the frustration and suffering of all those involved. This film is so moving because Mariane had every right to be bitter and angry about what happened to her husband. A great humanism emerges from the film, not fear or hatred, just a sad acknowledgement that terrorism finds misery everywhere.
