:: Don's PartyThe winner of six AFI awards, this much-loved Australian cult classic finally arrives on DVD. When you mix a left wing teacher, a loud-mouthed philanderer, a mild-mannered accountant, a failed philosopher, a 19 year old nymphette, a frustrated wife, a drunken pornographer, a temperamental artist and an arrogant dentist with a lot of booze on election night, anything can happen! Bruce Beresford filmed Don's Party entirely on location at a rented house in Westleigh, in north western Sydney. To make things more challenging, the film was shot almost entirely at night by cinematographer Don McAlpine. Beresford’s direction is inventive and masterly, and McAlpine’s work looks terrific. This will always remain a brilliantly realised black comedy, with a biting script adapted by Williamson from his own play. The quality and experience of the cast makes a big difference in setting up the occasion for a night of drinking amidst political debates and some adultery. DVD ExtrasNew 16:9 transfer |
