:: Grease 30th Anniversary Edition

Grease became a cultural phenomenon after it was first released in 1978. It helped make John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John icons, particularly with Olivia making her film debut and solidified Travolta's standing after Saturday Night Fever.

The film was the smash hit translation from the Broadway musical tribute to the fabulous 1950s. As a new school year begins, wholesome Australian exchange student Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and duck-tailed, leather-jacket-clad Danny (John Travolta) parlay their summertime romance into an on-and-off attraction that may or may not cross clique lines. Sandy seriously cramps Danny‘s style, so he dumps her. In response, Sandy begins dating a wholesome athlete, but, as a hedge, she also joins the gum-chewin’, tough-talkin' clique known as the Pink Ladies.

Declaring their devotion in such ballads as “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Sandy,” Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding “You're the One That I Want” at the climactic carnival.

To think it is thirty years and the film still stands tall in dialogue, performances and the general production. It is been fully remastered and restored with great sharpness and colour.

The songs are still terrific and the characters are enjoyable. Grease is one of the best musicals ever made and, after seeing it on the cinema screen, television, video and now DVD, it will continue to grow as a film for youngsters to love and adults to be entertained by. The songs stand the test of time. It will guarantee viewing pleasure.
