:: Hyde Park On Hudson

Set just prior to the Second World War, Hyde Park on Hudson is a sweet, charming and comical depiction of the relationship between then American president Franklin Roosevelt and his distant cousin Daisy Suckley, as well as the fateful visit of the king and queen of England to the presidential estate.

Laura Linney is marvellous as Daisy, whose jittery nerves when first visiting her powerful relative give way to a delicate confidence in her odd but happy position. Olivia Colman, as the young Queen Elizabeth, is an absolute standout, giving the character a distinct ‘in company’ and ‘in private’ demeanour and still maintaining a completely convincing flow; while Bill Murray locates the sensitivity in Roosevelt in his solid performance.

Despite its apparent historical inaccuracies, the film is very enjoyable and well shot.
