:: Jaws - 30th Anniversary Edition (2 discs)

Based on Peter Benchley’s book, this was a ground-breaking and brilliantly made in its day. It brought Steven Spielberg to prominence.

Starring Roy Scheider (Police Chief Brody), Richard Dreyfuss (shark specialist Hooper) and Robert Shaw (Quint, an old fisherman who offers to hunt the killer shark down), Jaws delivers edge-of-the-seat thrills. Thirty years on, this special presentation offers a perfect digital look at the original picture and there are loads of extra materials.

The shark, which terrorises a small holiday island, doesn’t make an appearance until well into the film. Australians could well remember that Ron and Valerie Taylor shot the live shark footage off the coast of NSW). Spielberg makes a brilliant film with the effective sounds and photography combining for gripping viewing.

The film, in which the hunters become the hunted, stands up remarkably well as a blockbuster, even now. Enthusiasts can sift through the extra two-and-a-half hours of bonus features. It’s a terrific package.
