:: National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets

In this follow-up to the box office hit National Treasure, treasure hunter Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage) once again sets out on an exhilarating quest to unearth hidden history and treasures. He has always believed that his great-great grandfather, Thomas Gates, was Civil War hero and a patriot who paid with his life to prevent the Confederates from getting the map to the huge treasure they could use to finance the war effort - an entire city made of gold. Benjamin is then told that his great-great-grandfather was implicated as a collaborator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Determined to find the truth, Gates endeavours to prove that the golden city exists. He must follow a chain of cryptic clues and hidden mysteries that leads him on an international chase from Washington to Paris, then to London and eventually back to the White House and the President of the USA.

With the help of his divorced parents, played by Jon Voight and Hellen Mirren, as well as his friend Riley (Justin Bartha) and his estranged girlfriend Abigail (Diane Kruger), Gates pursues the infamous President's Book of Secrets, said to contain the answers to the biggest cover-ups in US history.

But to locate the Book, Gates must plot to kidnap the only man who has access to it - the President of the US (Bruce Greenwood). Moreover, if he is to have any hope in proving his great-great-grandfather‘s innocence, he must find 'Cibola’, the lost city of gold hidden under Mount Rushmore.

It is a pretty good action/adventure treasure hunting film for the family and, while not bad for a sequel, but it's not as deep or mysterious as one might have imagined. Where the plot doesn't always hold up, the music score adds a significant amount of drama and the quick action scenes showed good use of camera angles. The acting is good with the original cast present again.
