:: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine is a worthy follow-up to the X-Men movie trilogy. It’s a prequel of sorts, spanning 150 years, and follows mutant Wolverine. Hugh Jackman reprises his role as the main character in an action-packed, over-the-top movie, befitting its comic book roots. A revenge scenario is set and Wolverine is on the hunt for his half brother, Victor Creed, a cold-blooded killer, played by Liev Schreiber. Along the way he is tricked into going through the mutant ‘Weapon X’ program, giving him his famed, ‘adamantium’ metal claws.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine also introduces the members of Team X, including Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Danny Huston playing Colonel William Stryker, Dominic Monaghan as Trilogy, and Black Eyed Peas front man in the role of Wraith. Huston plays a great master manipulator, tricking the mutants to work towards his ultimate goal of a new breed of mutant through his Weapon X program.

One of the highlights is an action sequence, where Jackman is on a Harley being chased by an army helicopter and a couple of Hummers – and, you can guess who comes out on top! The two-disc special edition second disc contains more than an hour of special features, including a featurette on this great sequence.

The Blu-ray version contains even more special features with more than two hours of extended content, including an interview with X-Men creators Stan Lee and Len Wein and, ‘Ultimate X-Mode’, with three different viewing experiences. It’s also Twentieth Century Fox’s first-ever release featuring ‘Live Lookup’ - an interactive BD-Live technology that gives access to up-to-date filmographies and related information via IMDB. Well worth checking out.
