:: Ocean's Twelve

There was a great deal of fun and mateship surrounding the making of this follow-up to Ocean’s Eleven. Everyone who survived the first film returns for this one and there are two key inclusions to the cast. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Isabel Lahiri and Vincent Cassel plays François Toulour.

All seems rosy for Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his wife Tess (Julia Roberts) as they’re ready to pop some champagne for an anniversary. However, Tess gets an unwelcome visit from Las Vegas casino honcho Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia). He had been tipped off about the location of Danny and his gang. The ultimatum was to pay back $US160m (plus interest) in two weeks or face the consequences.

So, Ocean has to assemble his old team and head off to Europe with limited preparation time. Danny sets them loose in Rome, Amsterdam, and Paris for some heists and they spar with various new characters, including Zeta-Jones and Cassel. Cassel’s character François is angry because he felt Ocean’s gang got extra recognition for their Las Vegas robbery. Zeta-Jones is an international agent and ex-girlfriend of Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt). Her role in the film is quite interesting and she receives substantial screen time.

Overall, the ensemble cast works well together and there is more humour spread amongst the gang this time. The gifted cast looks like they’re having a good time and the improbable plot is part of the charm. Clooney, Pitt, and Damon are at the forefront as being the more likeable and formidable stars and, together with the two leading women, would never let this sequel come up short. It’s great fun.
