The Inside Film Awards for 2006 will be held for the first time in Queensland, on November 17, 2006 at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. Actor Joel Edgerton will be hosting the awards, which will be broadcast live on SBS television at 10.00pm, with delayed telecasts screening on FOXTEL's SHOWTIME channel. The presenter list will be released closer to the awards.

This is known as the people's choice awards. The film awards are voted by the general film-going public who have seen Australian films throughout the year.

The general public can also buy tickets to the awards - cost is $200 - (walk the red carpet, attend pre event cocktail party, attend TV broadcast and the infamous rockin' after party - where they can rub shoulders with the stars - tickets available online or hotline 02 9660 4730.

Major nominations are:

  • Best Actor - Heath Ledger (Candy), Gabriel Byrne (Jindabyne), and Crusoe Kurddal (Ten Canoes)
  • Best Actress - Abbie Cornish (Candy), Laura Linney (Jindabyne), and Emily Barclay (Suburban Mayhem)
  • Best Film - Kenny, Suburban Mayhem, and Ten Canoes


This year, not only will presenters at this year’s eighth annual Inside Film Awards, be enjoying the sun, sand & sea air of the Gold Coast on November 17, but will be flying home loaded down with a fantastic “thank you” gift bag worth $3000, from the Australian film industry’s people’s choice awards.
