:: Spotlight :: Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema 2010/2011

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

If there’s one thing worth getting excited about after a long, chilly winter, it’s the highly anticipated return of Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema for another season of memorable movie-going under the stars. Tucked away in the depths of the spectacular Royal Botanic Gardens, Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema is again set to be the star attraction on Melbourne’s summer entertainment calendar from December 16 until March 20 2011. Adjacent to the Yarra River and within easy walking distance of the Melbourne CBD, the Royal Botanic Gardens is the perfect backdrop for an impressive schedule of new release, classic and cult films.

The 2010/2011 Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema schedule is brimming with films from every possible genre for all to enjoy including big new releases including The Social Network, The Dilemma, The Tourist and Little Fockers. Be the first to see big screen flicks like Love and Other Drugs, Unstoppable and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest at Moonlight’s exclusive preview screenings.

Moonlight will also host the Australasian premiere of Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie on February 20 in conjunction with the Sustainable Living Festival; and the popular screening of MIFF Shorts will return on January 23, celebrating 60 years of the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Cult and classic favourites also return like Enter the Dragon, Donnie Darko, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Top Gun, Grease, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Pulp Fiction, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Godfather, and Zoolander. For families and kids (young and old!) there’s Toy Story 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Despicable Me, Megamind, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Tangled.

Valentine’s Day
Every year, couples flock to Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema on the most romantic day of the year to snuggle up under the stars and enjoy a great film. On our special February 14 Monday night screening, Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis light up the screen in Heartbreakers.

On those balmy nights when a warm breeze drifts across our lush city gardens, the best way to soak up the last rays of sunshine is to kick back with good friends, tuck into a picnic and a sunset six-pack before getting up close and personal with the stars under the stars. And the hamper-challenged needn’t despair. If the thought of whipping up a gourmet feast leaves you cold, on-site catering is on hand with a tempting selection of food, wine, beer and other beverages.
